Kedarnath is a holy hindu town and get its name to the most religous Kedarnath temple. The temple is located in Rudraprayag district of Uttarakhand state. Kedarnath temple is dedicated to Lord shiva. Kedarnath is one of the Chardham. Chardham yatra contain four sites -Yamunotri, Gangotri, Kedarnath, Badrinath. Kedarnath is a popular destinatiom for all Hindus pilgrims of all over the world. History of Kedarnath:


According to the legend the pandavs had built the Kedarnath temple after mahabharata. The temple was revived by the Adi Guru Shankracharya in 8th century.



Mythology of Kedarnth


According to the mythology it is believed that pandavs wanted to wash their sins they committed during the war of Mahabharta by killing their own brotyhers, so they wants to meet Lord Shiva but the Lord Shiva was angry with them. He didn't want to bless them so Lord Shiva was converted himself into a bull and dug himself under the ground. Bhima tried to catch the bull and holds bull hump here and left certain parts of his body at four other places. Humb at Kedarnath, The Arms at Tungnath, The face at Rudranath, The belly at Madmaheshwar and The Hair at Kalpeshwar. All togather these temples are called Panch kedar.

Tungnath for the Arms(Bahu): This is the highest Hindu Shrine in the Himalayan located at a distance of 3 km from Chopta at an elevation of 3680 mts above the sea level. Tungnath Temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva and arm's of Lord Shiva is worshipped here. Tungnath is one of panchpprayag. The ideal of Vyas and Kalbhairav stand along the "Shivling" inside the temple. Facing the small, Low heigh gate of the temples, Sits Nandi the Divine Bull, the vehical of the lord Shiva. Tungnath is reached through a path that wends through alpine meadows and Rhododendron thickers. An hour's climb from here leads to Chandrshaila with it panoramic viwes.

Rudranath for the face (Mukh): Rudranath is the place where the lord shiva is worshipped as Neelkanth Madadev and the "mukh" or the Lord's Face is appeared here. Situated at a height of 2286 mts above the sea level. In the background, in all their glory, are the glittering snow-covered peaks of Trishul, Nanda Devi, Devastem etc. Near the temple is a stream of Sparkling water known as Vaitarini-The water of Salvation. The trek of the Rudranath can be organised either from Gangolgaon or Helang. Across country trek from Mandai to Helang via Anusuyadevi, Rudranath, Bansi Narayan, Urgam and Kalpeshwar or vice-versa can really be rewarding. The temple is surrounding by many kunds like -Surya Kund, Chandra Kund, Tara Kund, Manas Kund and also peaks are Nanda Devi, Trishul and Nanda Ghunti.

Madhyamaheshwar for the Stomach (Nabhi): It is situated at a distance of 30 km from Guptakashi at an elevation of 3490 mts above the sea level. After disappearing at Kedarnath, The Naval reappeared at Madhyamaheshwar. It is One among the five of Panch kedar pilgrimages Dedicated to Lord Shiva. This temple is bearing significance from the ancient ear. it is one of the most visited pilgrimages in Indian. Naval of Lord Shiva is worshiped in Madhyamaheshwar. Situated at an elevation of 2134 mts above the sea level near Urgam Valley can be reached by an easy trek of 11 km starting from Helang. The captivating Urgam Valley can be reached after a trek of 9 km from Helang. Best Time to Visit Badrinath

Summer season: May to June is the summer season starts in Kedarnath. The temprature is around 17 c during the season. Summer is the best time for sight seeing and yatra.

Winter season: During the winter season the chilly days are normaly found. The season is starts from November to till April. The temprature is fall down at freezing point. Snowfall is common during the season.

Monsoon Season: The Temprature during the season is abuot 12c and rains begins starts. Monsoon is staying between July to August.

Kedarnath Temple: Kedarnath is one of holiest temple in hindu religions, located at an elevation of 3584 mts above the sea level. Gaurikund: Gaurikund is the end point of roads to reach Kedarnath and starts an easy trek of 16 km from Kedarnath. The place name after Goddess parvati, wife of Lord Shiva and a temple Gauri is situated here. It is believed that Lord Shiva is accepted to get marry with Goddess parvati and married her in Trijuginarayan. Situated at a distance of 66 km from Rudraprayag.

Shankaracharya Samadhi: Shankaracharya samadhi is the place where the Samkracharaya decided to freedom from his body in the age of 32. The samadhi situated behind the Kedarnath temple.

SonPrayag: Sonprayag is a religious place and located in route to Kedarnath Yatra. The place is lies at the confluence of Mandakni and Basuki river. This is believed that take dip in sonprayag give "Moksha". Situated at a distance of 20.4 km from Kedarnath at an elevation of 1829 mts above the sea level. Offered scintillating views of snow covered mountains and lush green Sonprayag valley. The famous tempel of Trijuginarayan in Trijungi village is also located near the Sonprayag.

Phata: Phata has an open place to used as helipad. It is about 32 km from Kedarnath. Phata is the place where the pligrims take helicopter to Kedarnath Yatra and pilgrims take night stay or Refreshment while visiting Kedarnath. Many pilgrims who are not able to commence the trek avail they take to help choppre to reach the temple. A 8 minute journey willl make you reach Kedarnath Dham from Helipad.

Vasuki Tal: The lake is situated at an altitude of 14200 feet above sea level. This is believed that during the Rakshabandhan, lord vishnu take bath in the water of this lake. Thus the lake get its name as Vasuki tal. The lake is offered the majestic view of the Chaukhamba peaks from Vasuki Tal.

Gandhi Sarovar: Ganghi Sarover is a small lake and holding clean water. The sarover is situated on the mouth of Chorabari Bamak Glacier. Gandhi sarover lies on the foot of Kedarnath. Situated at a distance of 4 km from Kedarnath at an elevation of 3900 mts above the sea level.

Triyugi Narayan: Triyuginarayan is the place where the Lord Shiva get marry with Goddess Parvati in front of Lord Vishnu. The palce is popular name as "Lord Shiva's Wedding place" located in Rudraprayag District. The Triyuginarayan Temple is dedicated to Lord Vishnu, It is believed that Lord vishnu did all arrangement for this wedding and Lord Brahma played the role as a priest.

Bhairav Temple: Bhairav Temple is situated south of the Kedarnath and the temple is dedicated to Bhairav. Bhairava is dedicated as Kshetrapal who is the protector of the Kedarnath Temple and the whole Kedarnath valley in the winter season.

Gaurikund Temple: Gaurikund Temple is dedicated to Goddess Parvati. It is believed that Goddess parvati win the heart of Lord Shiva Here and Lord Shiva was aggree to get married at this place.

Chopta: Situated at a distance of 70 kms from Gaurikund. Chopta is popular as a "Mini Switzerland" of Uttarakhand and increase the tourists in recent years and become as a popular tourist destination due to its cool and pleasent wather. Tungnath is the highest temple of Lord Shiva situated 3.5 km from Chopta. Chopta is covered as a white sheet of snow During the winter season.
